Continuing with music inspired by Shakespeare, we invite you to join us on Valentine’s weekend for William Walton’s heartfelt music to Henry V and Prokofiev’s brilliant score to Romeo and Juliet. Prokofiev takes you right into the heart of the drama, from the humble, palpitating pangs of first love to the tumult of inter-family strife.

Composer George Walker will likely be best known for his beautiful Lyric for Strings. Already considered an American masterpiece, the Lyric is brief but haunting, leaving an indelible impression. We then continue our tradition of featuring young artists from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and this season we are pleased to introduce Matthew Allen, who will play Haydn’s ebullient, playful Cello Concerto No. 2.

Let’s face facts. A very small region in western Europe was responsible for an inordinately rich amount of wonderful music. The city of Vienna played host to some of the most beloved artists of classical music, and we celebrate some of its stars in April. We begin our evening by introducing wonderful young violinist Soovin Kim, who has garnered acclaim for his keen musicianship and technical ability.
