April's concert begins with an
intriguing and vibrant new concerto by American David Stock and features a
rising star in the percussion world, Lisa Pegher. Pegher's
virtuosity will dazzle you in music filled with infectious dance rhythms
and the color of a full battery of percussion. As music's "shot
heard around the world," Beethoven’s epic Ninth Symphony represents a bold
new direction in symphonic music. A colossal symphonic essay on the
struggle and victory of joy through brotherhood, Beethoven’s Ninth depicts
the romantic notion of man’s grappling with fate. The Asheville Symphony
Chorus and a vocal quartet will join in this amazing final symphony by one
of music’s giants.
