A Message from Carolyn Hubbard, Board President 2010-2012

Fifty years – what a milestone for the Asheville Symphony! This coming season, as we celebrate so many people and so many accomplishments in our history, one word sums it up to me: community. It has truly taken a community of musicians, staff, volunteers, donors and audiences to create and sustain the Asheville Symphony for five decades. Although beautiful music can be enjoyed in solitude and in small private and public groups, I believe the Asheville Symphony is also about creating larger community. A wonderful interaction happens when fine musicians and appreciative audiences come together to share great music in person. I hope you will think about your part in this dedicated community. Whether you attend the Masterwork Performances, participate in Guild Activities, enjoy Musical Feasts or take satisfaction in supporting one of Asheville’s premiere arts organizations, the Asheville Symphony is a part of your life. When you subscribe to our wonderful 50th Anniversary season, you may not realize that ticket sales cover only forty per cent of our operating costs. During this time of decreased government and corporate funding for the arts, I hope you will consider making an extra gift to the Asheville Symphony Annual Fund and become an even more special part of our community.
